IVSA Annual Meeting: The IVSA Annual Meeting was held on May 2, 2009 at the Van Buren American Legion Post. President, Dick Squiers presided over the meeting, and when all regular business had been completed, Dick announced the formation of the Indiana Snowmobile Hall of Fame. Dick originally came up with the idea for the Hall of Fame in mid 2008 as a way to preserve the heritage of snowmobiling and recognize some of the significant "pioneer snowmobilers" in Indiana. He discussed it with several others interested in the history of the sport and all agreed it was not only appropriate, but absolutely necessary. President Squiers made special presentations to 4 of the first 5 inductees who were present at the Annual Meeting. The charter inductees are: Virgil Reinig, a past Racing Director for the Indiana Snowmobile Association (ISA), and well know in snowmobile racing circles; Dick Mitchell, one of three "founding fathers" of the ISA, a former tour operator, and of course, a current officer of the IVSA; Don Cawthon, a former President of the ISA and very active promoter of snowmobiling as a family sport. Don still serves as a Director for the ISA; Pete Harris, founder of Harris Flote Boat, and long time snowmobile racer. Pete was known as a fierce competitor in the racing world; Phil Fidler was unable to attend the meeting, but will be presented wih his certificate by President Buell. Phil worked closely with Dick Mitchell and others during the infancy of the ISA and was very active in promoting the sport of snowmobiling. See photo on Special Events Page.
